As proprietor of Halfords Traditional Butchers alongside her husband Lee, Nicki ensures their shop goes from strength to strength with a loyal customer base in the heart of Tewkesbury’s town centre.
Prior to opening Halfords Traditional Butchers, Nicki worked in procurement for Herefordshire Council's ICT department and as office manager for an international consultancy company.
She has applied that experience to all aspects of the business at the butchers; from opening the store to maintaining and developing a thriving business entering its tenth year.
Originally from Ledbury, Nicki and Lee believed Tewkesbury’s High Street needed a butcher’s shop, where customers could enjoy all cuts of meat alongside a variety of homemade products.
They both fell in love with the town and knew it was the perfect place to set up their business and raise their family.
Nicki’s role is a varied one; finding herself laying her hands on all aspects of the business. The premises Nicki and Lee chose were initially in disrepair and it took three months before the shop was up and running. When they first opened in September 2007 Nicki worked the shop full time with Lee: juggling the day to day running of the business along with accounting and marketing. As their family have grown, Nicki’s role has become more clerical and her responsibilities include HR, compliance and any other duties required of her as a small business owner.
The opportunities and lifestyle that Nicki and her family have enjoyed has meant its been a pleasure to live and work in Tewkesbury. Nicki said: “We need businesses to collaborate. From the large corporations to the small independents, everyone needs to work together in order to see all perspectives for upcoming plans and events for the town.”
“Tewkesbury has so much to offer, it’s great being in business here and we’re very much looking forward to what the future has to offer.”
